HA19

Ha19oa
In HA19, a high magnification LM, there is a "negative Golgi region", a lighter staining area of the cytoplasm directly adjacent to the nucleus (tip of the arrow, 1) in a plasma cell. The reason for this appearance is that the membranes of the Golgi apparatus, which is very large in this antibody-secreting cell, stain differently from the surrounding RER-rich cytoplasm. In this image there are two other cell types that you will see repeatedly in images in this course. R labels a red blood cell (R), which is distinctive not only for its color, but also for its lack of a nucleus and other organelles. L labels small lymphocytes (arrow 3), which have a thin rim of cytoplasm and heterochromatic nuclei.
