Aside from the convoluted lumen, a distinctive feature of the seminal vesicle, compared to the prostate, is the large amount of smooth muscle in the lamina propria (HA11). In some areas the muscle is immediately beneath the epithelium (arrows). This smooth muscle facilitates secretion during ejaculation.
