HA8 shows a low magnification image of the trachea (T) to the right (ventral) and the esophagus (E) to the left (dorsal). The tracheal ring of hyaline cartilage (pink) is incomplete near the esophagus where the two ends are linked by dense connective tissue . In a human trachea there is a much wider gap posteriorly.
