HA5: Larynx and Trachea, monkey

Resp05l
HA5 is a frontal section through a nonhuman primate larynx and trachea. Compare this image with your understanding of the gross anatomy of the human larynx. Working from top to bottom on this image, the vestibule is the upper entryway into the larynx. The false vocal folds (F) protrude into the lumen. The ventricle is the invagination below them and the true vocal fold is the more inferior projection (*) into the lumen. In gross anatomy, this cone-shaped structure is called the conus elasticus. T is the thyroid cartilage and C is the cricoid cartilage. The arrows in the lower part of the field indicate a portion of the thyroid gland.
