HA12: AV valve & coronary sulcus

Note the coronary artery and cardiac vein in the epicardium (HA10) of the sulcus. These vessels run in the epicardial CT, which is mostly unilocular adipose CT. Based on your understanding of cardiac myocyte metabolism, why is it functionally important to have a reservoir of white fat close to the heart? HA12 shows the internal and external elastic laminae (arrows) in the coronary vessel.
