There is a complete connective tissue partition (HA11, arrows) between the thick ventricular myocardium and the thin myocardium of the atrium. This layer electrically insulates the atrium from the ventricle. On the endocardial side, the base of an atrioventricular valve leaflet can be seen (HA11 asterisk).
