HA2

Skin02l
At the dermal-epidermal junction (HA2), projections of the dermis called dermal papillae (arrows; papilla = finger like projection) interdigitate with projections of the epidermis, called epidermal pegs or epidermal ridges (asterisks). These interdigitations strengthen the bond between the two layers by providing increased surface area for hemidesmosomes and other connections to the basement membrane.
