Looking at the hyaline cartilage at higher magnification, note the chondrocytes (HA17, c) within the homogeneous matrix (HA17, M). You cannot distinguish individual components of the matrix because proteoglycan aggregates and type II collagen fibrils are not recognizable in light microscopic preparations.
