HA16

Ct16l
At low magnification, the esophagus is a muscular tube that is collapsed unless food is passing through it. In contrast, as part of the respiratory tract, the trachea must remain open at all times to allow air flow to and from the lungs. Rings of hyaline cartilage hold the trachea open, and support the soft tissues of the organ (HA16, T).
