The adrenal gland is composed of a central medulla (HA7 M) surrounded by a cortex (HA7 C). There is a layer of adipose tissue around the perimeter of the cortex. There are excellent examples of both white (unilocular) and brown (multilocular) adipose cells (HA8 X). The multilocular adipocytes have foamy cytoplasm and a centrally placed nucleus, while unilocular adipocytes have a single, large droplet of fat that displaces the nucleus to the perimeter of the cell. The green material is collagen fibers in the CT capsule.
