Home -> Unit 2 -> Connective Tissue
In this microgaph of a section of skin (HA5), you can see the epidermis (e). The underlying connective tissue is the dermis. In addition to the heavy staining of the collagen fibers by eosin, the elastic stain has colored the elastic fibers black. Note that the dermis changes character as you proceed down from the epidermis. This is a classic example of the gradation from loose to dense irregular CT. Since this is a low magnification light micrograph, you cannot identify the connective tissue cell types in this section, as compared to mesenteric spreads (HA1-3).
