HA13: Prostate gland, human - H&E
At higher magnification you can see the prostatic epithelium (HA13). The epithelium here is simple columnar, but ranges from simple squamous, before puberty, to stratified columnar depending on how much testosterone is circulating. Like the seminal vesicles there is smooth muscle (arrows) in the lamina propria, but the amount of smooth muscle is less in the prostate. This muscle contracts during the sexual response to force the secretions into the urethra.
