HA26 illustrates the plicae circulares (circular folds) in the jejunum which is part of the midgut and is the second part of the small intestine. The submucosa (s) forms the cores of the very large plicae. Note in this low magnification image that the villi (v) and crypts appear very small. The outermost layer is the muscularis externa (me).
