HA22 is a low magnification image of a distal phalanx in which a secondary ossification center has formed in the proximal epiphysis, resulting in the formation of a narrow epiphyseal plate. Cartilage remains at the joint to permit sliding of the bones against each other during movement. The tendons, skin and nail are in similar positions to HA17.
