The lumens of the follicles are filled with colloid, which in the thyroid gland is composed of thyroglobulin. The thyroid gland is extremely vascular. The cells are situated in very close proximity to capillaries. The gaps between groups of follicles are blood capillaries. As always, the capillaries are lined by an endothelium (HA9, arrow).
