Other areas of high compressive forces are the intervertebral discs of the spine. There are two parts to an intervertebral disc (d): the outer annulus fibrosis composed of fibrocartilage and an inner nucleus pulposus. The fibrocartilage in this image is located below the ventral horn of the spinal cord (HA24, SC). The arrows show the two locations of fibrocartilage in the annulus fibrosis that are in micrographs HA25 (upper arrow) and HA27 (lower arrow).
